The journal Moscosoa was founded in 1976 as the scientific organ of the National Botanical Garden "Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso." Its creation was driven by the botanist Henri Alain Liogier, who served as the founding editor in its early stages.

Throughout its history, the journal has had various editors and editorial committees composed of researchers from the National Botanical Garden and national and international collaborators. The publication has experienced periods of continuity and editorial pauses, resuming with a renewed editorial line in recent years, oriented toward modernization, editorial standardization, and scientific indexing.
